First Chapter ~ First Paragraph

It's Tuesday . . . time for . . .

First Chapter ~ First Paragraph Tuesday Intros, now hosted by Vicki at I'd Rather Be At The Beach, where bloggers post the first paragraph(s) of a book they are currently reading or planning to read sometime soon.

Today I'm featuring an upcoming read, The Good Liar by Catherine McKenzie.  The excerpt shared is from a hardcover version borrowed from the library.

The Good Liar

Cecily

I was late.  That's why I wasn't there when it happened.

Not in the building, not even close.

What do you think?  Would you continued reading?
The opening lines hold no clues as to what the story is about.  However, if you read the book jacket or Goodreads summary (link above in the title), you learn that an explosion occurs in the building that the narrator was meant to be in.  The story goes on to tell the impact of the event on three women, all of whom have secrets to hide.
