New Year . . . 2015 Reading Goals

Source: happynewyearimages.net

Happy new year, one and all.  I hope that your holidays were filled with special moments and meals shared with friends and family.  While it's hard to believe a new year begins today, I always like the feelings a new year evokes for me:  the promise of a clean slate and new beginnings, the desire to do things differently and/or better, the motivation to be more organized . . .  I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea.

As I take stock of my 2014 reading history, I'm pleased that I completed the four challenges I set (although I did set the bar relatively low after not meeting my goals in 2013).  Here's a recap:

2014 Reading ChallengeGood Reads Challenge
Goal:   62 books
Read:  63 books
This is an improvement over 2013, when I read 53 books (my 2013 goal was 52 books).  Before I began blogging, I averaged 100 books per year.  For 2015, I'm aiming for 75 books.

Challenge #1: 6/7-12Cruising Through The Cozies
Goal:   7-12 books
Read:  10 books

Challenge #2: 25/12  Library Book Challenge
Goal:   12 books
Read:  41 books
Surprisingly enough, almost all of the books I read in 2014 came from the library.  With 28 library books in my possession right now, and many hold requests, it appears this trend will continue in 2015.

Challenge #3: 30/20+   Women Challenge #2
Goal:   20+ female authors
Read:  42 female authors
Though not as surprising, these results are nearly identical to my Library Book Challenge results.

My reading plan for 2015 . . .
An increase in the overall number of books read, but drawing more books from those already in my numerous piles.  I'll probably join a few challenges hosted by other bloggers along the way, but at this point, I am taking a relaxed approach.

I wish each of you good luck with any reading challenges you undertake and lots of reading time and good books throughout the year.

Enjoy life with books . . .

Catherine

Thursday Thoughts: Reading Challenges 2014

After a considerable amount of thought, I've decided to give reading challenges another try this year.  I wasn't satisfied with my challenge results last year because I didn't meet all of the goals I set for myself in 2013. However, since I started 2014 off at a good reading pace, I am going to take the plunge again.

Reading challenges are fun.  They're also a good way to stay motivated and interact with other bloggers.  Whether committing to reading certain types of books or authors, challenges help set the pace and keep things interesting.  It's rewarding even when you only complete a few.

Here are the three challenges I am participating in:

My Challenge:  Level 2 - Investigator - 7-12 cozy mystery books

My Challenge:  Chapter Book Level - 12 books from the library

Join my new 2014 "Women Challenge"! :)
My Challenge: Level 4 - Wonder Woman - 20+ books by women authors

The four books I've already read this year have me off to a good start for two of these reading challenges.

I Love Library Books Reading Challenge -- 2/12:
The Master by Colm Tóibín      The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion by Fannie Flagg

Women Challenge -- 3/20+ :
The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion by Fannie Flagg  The Orphanmaster by Jean Zimmerman  The Book of Eve by Constance Beresford-Howe

How about you?  Have you signed by for any 2014 reading challenges?

Building on the success of my spring reading challenge, I have decided to take on a summer reading challenge.  Jen E is hosting the perfect summer reading challenge on her blog, mommablogsalot, which I am signing up for.

Since I finished 5 books during the spring challenge, I'll be doubling the number of books for this challenge to 10.

Thursday Thoughts: Challenge Check-In

In a Thursday Thoughts post on March 28th, I announced my participation in the Spring Reading Thing 2013 challenge hosted by Sandra at The Musings of a Book Addict.  Since it's now the half-way point of the challenge period (March 20th--June 20th), here's an update on my progress.

For this challenge, I committed to reading or finishing five books already in my possession.  I'm happy to report that I have read three of the five thus far:

Fonduing Fathers (White House Chef Mystery Series #6)   Beautiful Ruins   Me Before You

This leaves two books to go:
The Book of Lost Fragrances  Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles Series #1)

Feeling good about the results, with success within reach!

Enjoy life with books . . .
