First Chapter ~ First Paragraph Tuesday Intros is a weekly meme hosted by Diane at Bibliophile by the Sea. The idea is to share the first paragraph or two of a book I am currently reading or planning to read sometime soon.
This week I'm featuring the first paragraphs of Love Water Memory by Jennie Shortridge, an e-galley I downloaded from NetGalley that I'm looking forward to reading very soon, as I've heard lots of buzz about this title.
This book will be published by Gallery Books on April 2, 2013.
Note: Because this is an advanced reader copy, final text may differ.
"She became aware of a commotion behind her, yet it seemed important to keep scanning, searching for something out over the water, toward low mountains, a skiff of clouds. A bridge in the distance, familiar. And something else, something that shimmered on the periphery of . . . what, the horizon? Her vision? No, her mind. Something she was looking for. Voices called out; the people behind her. Seagulls shrieked from the pier on the right. Just past them, the masts of tall ships creaked slowly back and forth as though they'd been there forever, only she was just now seeing them.
'Hello?' A distinct male voice, closer. She tried to turn to see him, but her legs felt numb. No, they were cold. Ice cold. Dead legs. Was she dead? What was this place?"
What do you think? Would you keep reading? I'm in--just need to figure out when.
Enjoy life with books . . .
