Thursday Thoughts ~ Books from the Backlog

Happy Thursday . . .  aka, Happy Almost Friday!!

Today marks the first time I am participating in Books from the Backlog, hosted by Carole's Random Life in Books.  It's a fun way to feature some of those neglected books sitting on your bookshelf unread.  If you are anything like me, you might be surprised by some of the unread books hiding in your stacks . . . or on your eReader.

This week's neglected book is . . .

Release Date:  September 15, 2015
Publisher:  Riverhead Books

From Goodreads:  Every story has two sides. Every relationship has two perspectives. And sometimes, it turns out, the key to a great marriage is not its truths but its secrets. At the core of this rich, expansive, layered novel, Lauren Groff presents the story of one such marriage over the course of twenty-four years.

At age twenty-two, Lotto and Mathilde are tall, glamorous, madly in love, and destined for greatness. A decade later, their marriage is still the envy of their friends, but with an electric thrill we understand that things are even more complicated and remarkable than they have seemed.

Why I selected it:  I remember all the buzz around this book when it was first published.  I think even President Obama weighed in, saying he had read and enjoyed it.  It's been languishing on one of my priority must-read bookshelves, and I do still intend to get to it, because it focuses on the story of a long-term marriage, a subject that always fascinates me.

  1. I do remember that this book seemed to be everywhere for a while. I think that I had a few moments where I considered adding it to my pile but resisted in the end. I hope you do enjoy it when you get the chance to read it, Catherine! Thanks for joining in this week :)

    1. Thanks for hosting and stopping by, Carole. I'm hoping to be a regular contributor to your meme. It's so easy to forget all the great books you have that you wanted to read, which makes the meme helpful. Less out of sight, out of mind.

  2. Yay! Glad you could join in. I've found this weekly meme to actually work in getting books read. I've read two of the ones I've featured for the post so hopefully you will get to your books, too. :)

    1. Hi Sophia Rose. Checked out your post and discovered that I, too, have a copy of Pink Carnation languishing in my stacks. I tried to leave a comment on your blog, but couldn't find the comment button...

  3. This is a book that was talked about a lot awhile back so I've heard of it but never read it or any from the author. This feature sounds like fun... we all are guilty of having hidden gems on our e-readers or shelves that we have't gotten to!

  4. I know I have this floating around somewhere and have for years. Have I read it? Nope - or course not!
