Friday Focus: The Friday 56 & Book Beginnings #47

16
It's Friday . . . time to share excerpts from one of my current reads with:
  • Book Beginnings on Fridays hosted by Rose City Reader, where bloggers share the first sentence or more of a current read, as well as initial thoughts about the sentence(s), impressions of the book, or anything else that the opening inspires.
  • The Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice, where you grab a book and turn to page 56 (or 56% of an ebook), find one or more interesting sentences (no spoilers), and post them.
Today I'm featuring:
 Scoop!

I recently read A Vicky Hill Exclusive!, the first book in this entertaining cozy mystery series by Hannah Dennison, and couldn't wait to get my hands on the second book in the series.  When I found out that my public library system had a copy, I promptly requested it.  The book arrived this week, and I'm looking forward to the ongoing adventures of Vicky Hill, a reporter for the local paper who is in search of a page one story.

BeginningIt's funny how much I used to resent writing obits for the Gipping Gazette.  After all, it was a funeral that led to my first Vicky Hill exclusive.

Page 56: "'I do hope you feel you can tell me everything.  Sadie used to.  I don't judge, you know.'"

From GoodreadsObit writer Vicky Hill suspects foul play when she learns of a suspicious death: a champion hedge cutter, electrocuted after accidentally slicing through a power cable. Yeah, right. To get the real story Vicky’s willing to suffer through bad dates and mortal danger.

Which book are you reading now or about to start?
